The Gatorade Commercial

Have you seen the Gatorade commercial I'm in? I finally saw it a few days ago. The whole thing was set up through our front office. It's not like I tried out for the part. I'm on the mound and Derek Jeter's on first trying to steal. Garrett Anderson is playing first base, Howie Kendrick is at second and Shea Hillenbrand is in there too. Derek is a great guy. I've hung out with him a few times. He's fun to be around. I met Harvey Keitel right before the shoot. He was the big time guy with the big trailer. We never saw him between takes. He was chillin' in the trailer while we all just hung out. He had a double when they were lining up each shot so he literally came out only when it was time to shoot. It was a great opportunity to be in a national commercial like that, but it took forever to shoot. We did it over two nights and the shoots were 4-5 hours each. I definitely had no idea how much work goes into making a 45 second commercial. You would literally do something for a few seconds and then they'd move all the lights and the people in the stands. They had to shoot from every angle so you were always stopping and setting up. I don't think acting is going to become a second career for me, but that's probably ok with everyone.

    Thanks. He calls me a Schmendrick and I'm not sure what that means. It must be an east coast thing. It was a good experience, definitely more involved than I ever imagined.

  I really enjoy that commercial. One of Gatorade's best in my opinion(of course it has nothing to do with my favorite pitcher being in it! :-) Nice work John!

  It would have been better if you picked off Jeter at first. Or second. But Gatorade probably wouldn't have liked that.

  Just found out about your blog I think it's awesome that you're doing it, you're my favorite Angel I've always liked the intensity and emotion you've showed on the mound, even in the tough times. It's really been great to see you evolve from the 2002 season to the "Wild Thing" type days in 2003 and 2004 to the ace you have become, I keep telling everyone you're going to throw a no-hitter and win a Cy Young one of these days, they all laugh, but I know I'm right. Also this is quite random but kudos for beating up Kendall last year that was an all time great moment in Halo history, I know you would have defended Vlad and Howie had you been pitching in one of the games they were beaned. The Gatorade commercial is great, it's refreshing to finally see an Angel in a commercial whose name isn't Vladimir Guerrero, they should have showcased you more though. Good luck against the White Sox tomorrow, it'll be interesting to see you versus Erstad.

  From the play, a schmendrick or shmendrik became a Yiddish word meaning a fool, a jerk, a ne'er-do-well, almost an idiot, a clueless person, someone who's dumb, stupid or not worthy of respect. Example, "Erik was somewhat of a schmendrick in the way he responded to people."
  
  ... We can't let him get away with that. I guess this means now we have to go beatdown Harvey Keitel. Such a shame, I loved him in Pulp Fiction. ;)

  That commercial was bush league. If I were the director it would have gone down like this. The bases would be loaded with victoria secret models, all wearing nothing but teddies of course. You check the bases runners with a livid look. You then turn your head to the batters box and who is up, nonother than Gisel. You try to get focused but the thought of being surrounded by four hot off the grill furr burgers drives you into a complete daze. The crowd starts to go bonkers and you start to panic. All the sudden you wake up and it was all a dream. You look to your bed side table and there is a bottle of Gatorade AM.

  Hey, sweet blog! I found this when i was searching "John Lackey Game used", go figure.
  As to the commercial, its great! Your not a Schmendrick or whatever, and DJ shouldn't be able to steal in it, but its still very respectable.
